TFAD Recommendation #4
Outreach to Primary Care Providers
The idea is to extend outreach to Primary Care Providers (PCP) to increase dementia screening during Medicare Wellness exams and other routine primary care visits. With collaboration between medical professionals and medical associations the adoption and use of best-practice diagnostic guidelines for Alzheimer’s disease and other dementias is possible. Tools include:
· Validated clinical assessment tools
· Clinical guidance and toolkits such as KAER
· Online trainings
This means that individuals have access to early and accurate diagnosis that promotes quality care and participation in clinical trials/studies.
Initiatives for partnerships:
· HRSA Geriatric Workforce Enhancement Programs through UNR and UNLV Schools of Medicine
· UNR Sanford Center for Aging
· Project ECHO Nevada
· Cleveland Clinic Lou Ruvo Center for Brain Health
· UNR’s DEER program: Dementia Engagement, Education, and Research
